World Environment Day

The debate over the cause and effect of global warming will continue. Population growth & industrialization have increased energy usage and carbon dioxide emission. Cutting forests & tress and not planting new ones further amplifies the problem. The climate change is real. Long hot summers and extended cold winters seem to be the trend in this part of the world. Springs are autumns are lost somewhere. A Climate Change, Agriculture & Food Security (CCAFS) report indicates serious shortage of food supply and climate change is quoted as the reason. See the news article.

But there is still hope.

While the UN works to create awareness and broker agreement between countries on carbon dioxide emission levels, it is exciting to read about the tangible steps e.g. Europe opens the first solar powered railway tunnel on Monday (6th June 2011). Kudos to Bollywood stars Piryanka Chopra and Rahul Bose for taking initiative to motivate us to plant new trees as part of WED Challenge (Word Environment Day Challenge).

What can we all do to continue enjoying beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets as in these pictures?

You might have heard this. We are not giving this nature to our children but have loaned it from them.

We need to be sensible and sensitive; which is very tough isnt it?

Awareness and concern are equally important. We all need to make efforts. Relying on other is never the solution. I am glad those who can, are doing something about it! :) Great shots!

Good shots and a good message. we all have to do our bit for the environment now. I donate to "light a billion lives" cause. This was in collaboration with NDTV's Greenathon.

I like the two pictures and yes, we must participate equally and give back to nature what it has been depleted of.

I think individual responsability is good, but we also need to fight for regulation that will enforce good practice on companies. They do most of the polluting/deforesting/screwing up of the natural and human world. We also need to invest in infrastructure, here and especially in the third world, so that people have better chances of adapting to the changes that are already taking place and will exacerbate throughout the 21st century.

Hehe, I seem to have a strong opinion!

We should do our bit to preserve nature. These beautiful trees, lakes and forests give us a great getaway from the blues of the metro life.

A,
Long time since I visited, was travel time for me,
Regarding the post I too felt the climate has changed a lot. My recent visit to Chennai, the city was burning hot. The mercury has shot at least by a few degrees than what it was a decade back. The no. of air-conditioners has soared up , We find each and very house with one. Go to Burma Buzzar, the small cubile stalls are all air conditioned. All the gases are released into the atmosphere. The climate is changing. Will it be possible to stop using Air conditioners or fridge. We are making the envt. more and more polluted. Planting trees may be one option.

A, thanks for post about world environment day..Beach and sunset pictures are beautiful.

Problem is real serious and each of us need to be sensitive about what we use and what we throw. Recycle, promoting growing our own veggies, consumption of local produce, avoiding processed food..adopting lifestyle in alignment to nature. We do our part and Govt does their, this will greatly help.

I too think we need to be more responsible and be conservative when it comes to the usage of natural resources. Availability of a lot of money doesn't automatically give us a license to exhaust all resources - this applies especially for the people in developed countries and metro cities.

Thanks for mentioning this. The weather is certainly weird here in England - it was very warm (28 degrees) on Friday and back to Autumn with wind and rain and temperatures of 11/12 degrees on Saturday.

Beautiful pics, as always. Planting trees helps. I guess everyone should make their own heaven. Then ultimately, the entire earth will be greener again. Every drop makes up an ocean. And charity always begins at home. :)

Yeah definitely weather has gone to the way beyond extremes and I agree that its a real change which is noticable . As others have said we should collectively act accordingly to save the earth as is or atleast avoid further damage.

All the so called beautiful things in the world will become extinct in time.
Governments destroy forests in the name of development, but really, just to make money out of the immense forest wealth.Deforestation occurs at a rate of 20% for the last 25 years.70% of the Brazilian Amazon is gone.

Mans greediness has no limits.

Freaky is the right word for it. In Italy, where we live, for so many years we had really hot summers and mild winters, but for the last three years, it rains a lot all the time, summers are too cool and winters are terribly cold. I think that a big problem is big industries, that pollute more than thousands of people put together. How can we make them change?
